It is too dark to see the right hand side of the clock mechanism so we will turn on a work light (being certain to turn it off when we are done). This is the bell striker mechanism that sounds on the hour. It seems to be much more massive than we might expect in a clock. The reason will become more apparent when we get to the bell and striker. The rod on the far right goes all the way up to the striker. Being a gift to the Town of Sudbury, it remains town property and is maintained by the town. You may have noticed that it looks a lot cleaner and brighter than it’s 137 year age.
