The Desert Fix
Wandering
After days of wandering slickrock, dry wash and canyons, we sit out at a primitive campsite, open a beer and watch the stars come out. Time was once measured by human generations and the seasons of the sun. The study of rocks has taken us to the movements of continents and the cycles of living species from evolution to extinction. The study of stars has taken us to the beginning of time and the evolution of the elements. The rocks here are colored by many forms of iron – burned out star cores. We sit here looking out over all of that evidence of time surrounding us and share tales of our own brief and humble time – the beer is never better than in this moment – shared with friends – ritual built together. At times like this, Gary is fond of saying “NOW we are camping!”
