I struggled desperately with living in such poor conditions beyond anything I had ever known so far. I was trying to stay focused on my education. My dreams of science and engineering were still strong, but there was just too great a disconnect resulting from living each day alone looking out this window. These photographs were the first I had ever made that were so personally expressive of how I felt and I believe now that they helped me to see the horribly difficult reality, that I had to leave before I was finished. I had to find work to be able to live better than this. I thought that perhaps I could follow this path of photography. It seemed to suit my soul. A temp job with the Education Development Center in Newton Mass. illustrating books is a taste but is completed in less than a year. Engineering finally did become my profession, but photography has remained an intimate part of my life throughout.
