Beginnings
Below the Approach
Back to my second floor apartment in a decaying building that was once the Troy Armenian Meeting Hall. Parts of the floor are blocked off so you won’t fall through. Thick plywood creates a path across the unsound floor to prefab metal showers in a part of the building with no heat and no glass in the windows. October mornings are getting cold. Many buildings nearby are vacant and gutted. I am surrounded by a mind numbing landscape of decay and abandonment. When I go out to photograph it, I make every effort to find the most depressing, ugly and disgusting images around. When I develop and print them in the Student Union darkroom, I find myself laughing rather than crying.
Laughter helps for a while
